BATTERY PARK CITY FARMERS MARKET LAUNCHING THIS SPRING

Market to operate Sundays on River Terrace from Mother’s Day to November 23

Return of farmers market to BPC for first time since 2011

The Battery Park City Authority (BPCA) today announced a new farmers market will launch on Mother’s Day – Sunday, May 11 – and operate on Sundays through November 23 on River Terrace aside the Irish Hunger Memorial in Battery Park City. The Battery Park City Farmers Market will be operated by Down to Earth Markets, which has been operating successful markets in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and Westchester since 1991 and maintains an extensive roster of regional farms and food producers across their markets.

“We’re thrilled to welcome a farmers market back to Battery Park City for the first time well over a decade, and proud to partner with Down to Earth Markets to provide convenient access to fresh produce,” said BPCA President & CEO Raju Mann. “The BPC Farmers Market will not only support local farmers – we hope it will help foster a sense of community and become a Sunday tradition for lower Manhattan.”

“Down to Earth Markets is excited to introduce its small scale farmers and food makers to the Battery Park City community,” said Dacotah Rousseau, Managing Director, Down to Earth Markets. “They will be bringing just-picked fruits and vegetables, pasture-raised meats and eggs, pickles, small batch sauces, artisan baked goods and more, making it possible to buy the best of our region directly from the grower or maker. Shopping at a farmers market offers enormous benefits: the food is fresh and high quality, the environmental impact is minimal, and the greatest possible percentage of every food dollar goes back to the farm or kitchen. We think it’s something that Battery Park City residents and visitors will both appreciate and enjoy!”

“I’m thrilled to hear that the Battery Park City Authority is launching a new farmers market, bringing the community locally sourced fruits and vegetables,” said Congressman Dan Goldman. “This initiative is another great step taken by Battery Park City Authority in enhancing our neighborhoods and making the most of our public spaces for the benefit of our communities.”

“I’m thrilled to welcome the return of the Battery Park City Farmers Market after nearly a decade – a testament to our community’s commitment to fresh, local food and vibrant public spaces,” said State Senator Brian Kavanagh, who represents Battery Park City. “This market will not only provide access to healthy, sustainable produce but also strengthen neighborhood connections and support regional farmers. Thank you to the Battery Park City Authority and Down to Earth Markets for making this possible. I encourage all residents and visitors to Lower Manhattan to stop by the market, enjoy the offerings, and take part in this fun new feature of Battery Park City!”

“Bringing a farmers market back to Battery Park City is a major win for our community. It’s about more than just fresh produce – it’s about creating access to healthy, affordable food, supporting local growers, and reclaiming public space for neighbors to gather,” said Council Member Christopher Marte. “I’m proud to support this effort and grateful to the Battery Park City Authority and Down to Earth Markets for making it happen. Initiatives like this help make our city more equitable, sustainable, and connected.”

“We’re excited to see a farmers market return on Sundays to Battery Park City. This is a win for local families, local farms, and the Lower Manhattan community,” said Tammy Meltzer, Chair of Manhattan Community Board 1. “The market will not only support regional farmers and food producers, but also bring neighbors together through healthy food options in a vibrant, sustainable setting. We thank the Battery Park City Authority and Down to Earth Markets for this partnership to bring another great amenity to the community.”

The Battery Park City Farmers Market will operate on Sundays, 9AM-2PM, from Mother’s Day to November 23 on River Terrace aside the Irish Hunger Memorial. The location offers enough space to expand from its initial footprint of 20 stands weekly. The market will also operate food benefit programs, including SNAP EBT, NYC Health Bucks, NY State Fresh Connect, and the Farmers Market Nutrition Program.

In addition to healthy, fresh produce from local providers, family-friendly activities will be programmed at the BPC Farmers Market throughout the season. River Terrace will be closed to vehicular traffic and parking from Murray Street to North End Avenue from 7AM-4PM on BPC Farmers Market dates. There will be no impact to parking garages or building entrances in the area.
