BPC: DID YOU KNOW? | P.S. 89 / I.S. 289 PLAYGROUND RESTORATION & MODIFICATION

UPDATE (2) 8/29/19: To include fall planting season info

UPDATED 8/1/19

Opened in 1998, P.S. 89 / I.S. 289 is located at 201 Warren Street, along the Hudson River Greenway and north of the BPC Ball Fields. Its playground, directly east of the school building and last renovated in 2003, consists of an asphalt-paved basketball play area and a rubberized play surface with play equipment.

Over the years the condition of the playground has deteriorated due to normal wear-and-tear (weathering of play equipment, partial cracking of the asphalt pavement, and shrinking of the rubber play surface from sunlight exposure), as well as from inclement weather. Roots of the trees lining the playground’s eastern perimeter may also impact its drainage systems in time.

Earlier this month, BPCA began the P.S. 89 / I.S. 289 Restoration & Modification Project to mitigate these deteriorated conditions and structural issues, and extend the useful life of the playground. Work is scheduled to be complete close to to the start of the 2019-2020 school year, with trees replaced during the fall planting season in October.
