See you next fall!
Managing well over a thousand trees across the neighborhood comes with its fair share of maintenance for our Parks Operations team. That means regularly trimming, pruning, and at times, removing dead or dying trees for public safety – and so they can be replaced during the upcoming planting season.
This week, our Parks Operations team will be performing tree work on the west side South End Avenue between Liberty Street and Albany Street. This work will entail:
– removal of three (3) dead Elm trees;
– removal of one dead Sweetgum tree;
– pruning of multiple existing trees to remove deadwood and clean canopy; and
– pruning larger trees for a minimum of five (5) foot clearance off adjacent buildings
In addition, one dead Zelkova tree on West Thames Street will be removed, with replacements for all tree removals to planted in the fall of 2026.
This past weekend, a Honey Locust along the Wagner Park waterfront was also felled by high winds. It too will be replaced this September/October.
Thanks to our dedicated Horticulture professionals who work daily to keep BPC’s flora healthy and beautiful!
