NOV17: DAVID HAMMONS
Since the 1960’s Hammons’ art explores and protests complexities of life and its impact on African Americans. Often depicting pop culture iconography and including found objects, he resists the limitations of galleries in favor of public art and performance. “Days End” in Chelsea references the extinct Hudson River Piers, their significance for the LGBTQ community, and previous work by Gordon Matta-Clark, which investigates urban development and its impact on existing communities.
