Though their art was created 36 years apart, artist team Siah Armajani and Scott Burton and artist James Yaya Hough were commissioned to create site-specific public art in Battery Park City’s communal spaces to welcome people to gather, enjoy art, reflect, converse and deepen their connections.
At the crossroads of Battery Park City, Waterfront Plaza was designed by lead architect Cesar Pelli with Armajani, an Iranian exile artist, architect, scholar and activist, and Burton, whose creativity was a combination of sculpture, furniture and surrounding open spaces. Hough introduces history, mythology, spirituality, and vivid narratives in his compositions such as Justice Reflected that invites reflection on justice, injustice, hope and humanity.

Though their art was created 36 years apart, artist team Siah Armajani and Scott Burton and artist James Yaya Hough were commissioned to create site-specific public art in Battery Park City’s communal spaces to welcome people to gather, enjoy art, reflect, converse and deepen their connections.
At the crossroads of Battery Park City, Waterfront Plaza was designed by lead architect Cesar Pelli with Armajani, an Iranian exile artist, architect, scholar and activist, and Burton, whose creativity was a combination of sculpture, furniture and surrounding open spaces. Hough introduces history, mythology, spirituality, and vivid narratives in his compositions such as Justice Reflected that invites reflection on justice, injustice, hope and humanity.
