A lunch time program for passersby to play a quick game of chess or backgammon. Using clocks, opponents will play 5 minute games that are fast, furious and fun. An instructor will be on hand to offer pointers and tips to improve your game.

YOUNG SPROUTS GARDENING
A wonderful opportunity for little gardeners and their accompanying adults to get a bug's-eye-view of the world! Join us as we read stories about the life within our garden beds and then head into the Children’s Garden to water, dig, and admire the plants and flowers all around us! Together, we will observe the changing seasons and learn about the pollinators and other insects who help our plants thrive. Gardening is a great introduction to teaching us how to care for the environment.

Drop by the Community Room and join seniors from the greater BPC area for conversation, and informal card and board games. Make new friends and catch up with neighbors.

Discover the fun and rewards of tending a garden. Plant annuals and native perennials, and take part in watering, weeding, composting, and other green gardening practices. Learn how our resilient garden provides food for pollinating insects and birds. Fun nature studies and art projects will augment the program. For children who love nature and like to get dirty! This BPC park offers a unique setting to observe and sketch the human figure. Each week a model will strike short and long poses for participants to draw. An artist/educator will offer constructive suggestions and critique. Drawing materials provided, and artists are encouraged to bring their own favorite media.

Namaste! Unwind from the day with outdoor yoga. Immerse yourself in this meditative practice- surrounded by the Hudson’s peaceful aura. Strengthen the body and cultivate awareness in a relaxed environment as your instructor guides you through alignments and poses. All levels are welcome. Artists Mary Miss and Shuli Sadé discuss South Cove and its relationship to nature. South Cove was conceived by Mary Miss, Stanton Eckstut, and Susan Child as an artwork that was also a public space. With Bird’s Eye View by Shuli Sadé, South Cove becomes a site for art as well as an artwork itself. Both artists will also discuss how they address environmental issues in their work.

GO FISH! BATTERY PARK CITY’S CELEBRATION OF LIFE IN THE HUDSON ESTUARY
Join experienced anglers for catch-and-release fishing and learn about life in the Hudson River. Help observe and identify the fish we catch, enabling us to share valuable data with research groups who monitor the health of our local waters. The day also includes an art project and a nature walk. Plus: don’t miss a live performance of the hit internet show Sing with Suzi featuring Suzi Shelton and special guest The Culture Queen.

The American architect and sculptor Maya Lin became famous when her anonymous entry won the competition to design the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. Continuing the Young Architects Series, learn more about Maya through a read-aloud of Maya Lin: Artist-Architect of Light and Lines by Jeanne Walker Harvey. Then create collages of your own, envisioning landscapes that you would want to design someday.
