Battery Park City Authority (BPCA) President and Chief Executive Officer B.J. Jones and Council Member Margaret S. Chin, joined by members of the Battery Park City Seniors group, today formally opened a new community and event space at 200 Rector Place in Battery Park City. The facility, consisting of a 650-square foot community room, kitchen, and restrooms, also houses Battery Park City’s AlliedUniversal Security Command Center, as well office space for on-site staff at work on various BPCA construction projects. The facility is also home to several BPCA-coordinated events for local seniors, including weekly drop-in and board game sessions.
“We hope this will be a place where people can connect with one another and take advantage of community-based services and activities,” said BPCA President & CEO Jones. “We look forward to working with elected officials and local organizations to do so, starting with the BPC Seniors!”
“I was thrilled to cut the ribbon for the new community and event space at 200 Rector Place,” said Council Member Margaret S. Chin. “Our seniors deserve the best and I know this new space will be put to great use.”
“The Battery Park City Seniors were pleased to join this opening event and are looking forward to expanding programming with the BPCA,” said Maryanne Braverman, BPC Seniors Steering Committee Member. “And we hope to meet more of our neighbors in this lovely new space soon!”
“We’re thrilled that this space is now open for the community and that our seniors have a permanent place to meet and socialize,” said Ann Schwalbenberg, BPC Seniors Steering Committee Member.
The 200 Rector Place facility replaces the space BPCA formerly rented at The Regatta, which was vacated in 2016 at the end of the lease. It joins 6 River Terrace in Battery Park City’s north neighborhood as community space available for use by the public. Priority usage will be granted to community and governance organizations, such as senior and youth activities, community board meetings, and more.
