BPC NEW LOOK: NYC POLICE MEMORIAL

First dedicated on October 20, 1997, the NYC Police Memorial in Battery Park City honors and pays tribute to the members of the New York City Police Department who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Working in close consultation with NYPD and architect Stuart Crawford, the Memorial has now been expanded to honor additional officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. It reopened to the public in July 2022.

This roughly $2.7 million expansion utilizes the distinctive green granite from the original quarry, with the now more than 1,000 names reordered chronologically dating back to 1849.

Each year, with NYPD and family members of the fallen, BPCA hosts a ceremony to honor and unveil new names that have been added to the Memorial.

“For nearly 25 years now, Battery Park City has the solemn privilege of serving as the home to the NYC Police Memorial. It’s an honor to do so, in somber recognition of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the people of this city,” said BPCA President & CEO B.J. Jones.
