The BPC Ball Fields / Community Center Resiliency project envisions the design and construction of a flood barrier system along the eastern, northern, and southern boundaries of the BPC Ball Fields, which annually host some 50,000 local youth across various leagues.
Through consultation with the community, BPCA will be pursuing an interim solution to maximize field availability and minimize community impact, with work beginning early 2020 and concluding later that year.
This interim solution will reduce the risk of field and community center flooding from large-scale storm events until the completion of the South and North Battery Park City Resiliency Projects (in 2022 and 2023, respectively), which will provide long-term protection to the area.
In advance of the start of BPC Ball Field Resiliency Project
construction, BPCA is pursuing, and is currently verifying the dimensions for,
a temporary “Muscle Wall”
solution around the perimeter of the BPC Ball Fields. Once established in
place, this solution is intended to reduce flood risk for the rest of the
current Atlantic Hurricane Season, which runs through November 30, 2019. The
system will be removed at that time.
