Details free events for across Battery Park City from January through April 2025
Battery Park City Authority’s Winter 2025 Program & Event Guide details a broad range of free programming – including STEM education, music, art, nature, walking tours, fitness, and more – across Battery Park City from January through April. The Guide features illustrated program offerings organized by monthly event highlights and by those of interest to adults and seniors, school-aged children, and preschoolers, as well as information about community spaces at 200 Rector Place, 6 River Terrace, the BPC Ball Fields, and discounted membership rates at Battery Park City’s Community Center at Stuyvesant High School. Available on BPCA’s website, hard copies of the Guide will be arriving to all mailing list subscribers next week and will also be available in New York State’s 12 most common non-English languages. Thursdays, Jan 16, Feb 13, Mar 13 & Apr 10, 6:30PM @6 River Terrace
LATIN AMERICAN FILM SERIES: This series explores Modern and contemporary Latin America through cinema. Free popcorn will be served, and a discussion will follow the screenings.
– Jan 16: Wild Tales (Damián Szifron, 2014), a waitress adds a special ingredient to an arrogant loan shark’s meal in one of several tales dealing with extremes of human behavior.
– Feb 13: Rosa Chumbe (Jonatan Relayze, 2015) a mature police officer is forced to take care of her grandson after her daughter steals her savings. Everything takes a wrong turn one night. Only a miracle can save her.
– Mar 3: Nueve Reinas (Fabián Bielinsky, 2000) two small-time swindlers team up after meeting in a convenience store. Deception and duplicity mount, making it difficult to figure out who is conning whom, and who isn’t a thief.
– Apr 10: Guie’dani’s Navel (Xavi Sala, 2018) A rebellious Zapotec girl moves from her small village to Mexico City when her mother takes a job as a maid for a wealthy family.

Join us for Saturday Family Workshops featuring STEM based learning activities:
– Feb 01: In celebration of Black History Month, families are invited to join STEM Queen Jacqueline Means to see exciting experiments conducted right before your eyes. Learn a ton about how science, technology, engineering and mathematics come together to make things work. Experiments are designed for ages 4 and up.
– Mar 08: Step right up’ to the legendary Bindlestiff Family Cirkusshow and skills workshop. Learn some new tricks, and experience dynamic novelty acts in an engaging and participatory way that you don’t find in other types of circus. Sure to be a crowd-pleaser for the whole family.
– Mar 09: Join KoKo NYC for a sustainable makers workshop and inventor’s lab! Led by teaching artists, kids and their families will hone their skills, use real tools, and experiment with recycled materials, found objects, and textiles to bring their ideas to life.

– Valentine Making Workshop
All we need is LOVE! Take part in this time-honored annual Battery Park City tradition where participants are invited to make old-fashioned handmade cards for their loved ones! Earth Month: Compost Tour

City Nature Challenge Bioblitz
Help conduct a bioblitz, where professional and citizen scientists work together to identify all the plant and animal specials in a specific area and contribute to building a catalog of Battery Park City’s biodiversity. Using the iNaturalist app, we’ll be taking pictures of pollinators in our gardens. Please meet in front of 6 River Terrace. You’ll be outside in the garden, so dress appropriately.

S.T.E.A.M. DREAM
Kids are invited to pick up S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) at this special Earth Month themed open air fair. The event will feature a variety of engaging activities and a pop up lab with BioBus who help K-12 and college students discover, explore, and pursue science.
COMMUNITY CENTER AT STUYVESTANT HIGH SCHOOL
The Community Center at Stuyvesant High School (CCSHS), located at 345 Chambers Street, is a community resource for recreation, sports, swimming, and fitness operated by BPCA seven days a week when school is not in session. Deeply discounted annual membership rates are available for Battery Park City residents, youth, seniors, and military personnel. Day passes are also available to all New Yorkers.
