9/11 Assistance Programs

Those directly impacted by 9/11 can apply for free assistance programs. No lawyer required.

If you were present in the VCF New York City exposure zone area of Lower Manhattan, including Battery Park City, or certain surrounding areas of Northern Brooklyn in the months after the September 11th terrorist attack, you may be eligible for assistance through the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund & the WTC Health Program. These assistance programs are federally funded through 2090 and all who were impacted, or are a representative of a deceased individual, are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility is not limited to first responders. These programs are open to all individuals who were living, working, visiting, and attended school in the exposure zone from September 2001 to May 2002. Federal 9/11 medical care covers a variety of illnesses including but not limited to, asthma, cancers and mental health conditions including PTSD. You do not need an attorney to receive assistance.

Impacted individuals may also be entitled to compensation through the New York State Office of Victim Services (OVS). OVS has awarded more than 7,300 victim compensation claims paying approximately $47.5 million in awards. To learn more about filing a claim, visit ovs.ny.gov or email OVSinfo@ovs.ny.gov
