COMMUNITY NOTICE: SEASONAL CLOSURES ON SELECT BPC LAWNS

Each fall, the Battery Park City Authority closes a portion of its most heavily-used green spaces to provide time for rest, reseeding, and recuperation. Beginning next week, temporary fencing will be installed for this purpose around the following lawns in Battery Park City. These lawns will re-open in mid-April 2026:

– North End Avenue Lawn (in front of Stuyvesant High School)
– Murray Street Triangle
– Rector Park East Lawn
– Rector Park West Lawn
– Rockefeller Park South Lawn
– Wagner Park Lawn*
– West Thames Park Playground Lawn

The following BPC lawns will remain open to the public this winter:

– Rockefeller Park North Lawn
– Teardrop Park (both lawns)
– Lawns adjacent to the Irish Hunger Memorial
– West Thames Park Turf Lawn

As a reminder, “Pet Free Area” signage is also installed on our lawns. While leashed pets are permitted on hard surfaces throughout Battery Park City, they are not permitted on parks lawns and green areas. Read more in our It’s a Dog’s Life in BPC brochure.

We look forward to seeing you around Battery Park City this winter, and across all our green spaces again next spring!

* Includes lawn replacement to address soil compaction / ponding issues.
