18-year Conservancy Veteran to Lead Team of Dedicated Professionals Devoted to Sustainability & Enriching Public Programming
NEW YORK, August 18, 2015 – Battery Park City Parks announced today that 18-year veteran Bruno Pomponio will take the helm of BPC Parks as Director of Parks Operations. Pomponio, who has led the Parks Maintenance division since 1999, will assume the new position this fall following the retirement of Executive Director Tessa Huxley.
Pomponio is accompanied by a highly regarded leadership team. Eric “T” Fleisher, will continue in his role as Director of Horticulture. Over the past 25 years, Fleisher has designed and implemented the sustainable landscape management program which is utilized throughout Battery Park City’s 36 acres of parks. Ryan Torres, a fourth generation horticulturalist, educator, and certified arborist, will assist Fleisher in further developing and refining this landscape management program moving forward. Abby Ehrlich continues as Director of Parks Programming along with her long-time deputy Craig Hudon. With Abby and Craig’s combined 30 years of programming experience in BPC, they will continue to build upon the hundreds of free programming activities currently offered to the community.
“We have a remarkable team in place who have all played a significant role in creating a world class park system over the years,” said Shari C. Hyman, President of the Battery Park City Authority and BPC Parks Conservancy. “Their comprehensive experience has created an urban oasis in Battery Park City for all to enjoy. We are lucky to have them continuing in their leadership roles.”
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead our dedicated staff and serve the community in this new capacity,” said Pomponio. “I look forward to working closely with leadership and staff as we preserve our pristine parks and innovative sustainability practices.”
