UPDATED 9/3/19: South Cove Jetty Replacement is complete and the area reopened to the public
South Cove, the creation of environmental artist Mary Miss, architect Stanton Eckstut, and landscape architect Susan Child, is regularly cited as among the most peaceful and serene spots in Battery Park City.
One of the primary elements of South Cove is a large, curving pedestrian-accessible wooden jetty that extends into the water like a pier at the southern end of the Cove.
After conducting an underwater structural inspection of the Jetty in 2018, BPCA determined that several timbers and bracing connections require replacement, along with various repairs to some of the wooden piles and replacement of all of the deck boards.
This repair effort entails temporary placement of a work barge (pictured) and is now underway at South Cove. It is scheduled to be complete this fall.
All work associated with this project will be conducted during normal citywide construction hours (Monday-Friday, 7:00am-6:00PM) only.
