Tucked along the southernmost portion of the North End Avenue traffic island is Battery Park City’s Greenery Workspace, an area utilized by BPCA’s Parks Operations team for various purposes since its construction some two decades ago. Colloquially known as the “North End Avenue Nursery,” the space serves two primary functions: storage of newly-delivered plants prior to their planting in the spring and fall, as well as equipment like fencing and various maintenance supplies; and housing of both garden debris and dog waste compost as it cures and awaits its final destination across Battery Park City’s landscapes.
Beginning this month, the greenery workspace is being upgraded to allow for continued and efficient composting efforts of garden debris and dog waste, along with ensuring there is optimal space for delivered and/or recovering plants. East and west gates access gates are being installed in addition to the (existing) north gate, which will facilitate access for Parks Operations vehicles and equipment. On the northern end, bins are being installed for orderly containment of garden debris compost piles at different stages.
