“From coastal resiliency and sustainable green practices to the preservation of affordable housing, world-class public art, and vibrant, year-round programming in award-winning public spaces, Battery Park City leads the way in many of the measures that makes cities livable."
Beginning Monday, November 24, the BPC Ball Fields will be closed to facilitate turf replacement and facility upgrades. As a result, no permits will be issued for field use during the Winter 2025-2026 season. The fields are scheduled to reopen to the public on Monday, March 2, 2026.
Last replaced in the wake of Hurricane Sandy in early 2013, the current artificial turf has reached the end of its useful life and will be replaced with an environmentally-friendly, sustainable synthetic turf infill. Other upgrades as part of this project include:
– Larger playing surface – Additional netting to protect seating – New batting cages and outfield fencing – Permeable pavers along the fields’ pedestrian path – New water misters and water bottle filling station – Backstop repairs
Last winter (pictured above), BPCA replaced the worn Ball Fields padding for the 2025 season.
A treasured local amenity, the roughly 80,000 square foot BPC Ball Fields are used by some 50,000 area youth annually.
