COMMUNITY NOTICE: TEMPORARY STREET & TUNNEL CLOSURES, SEPTEMBER 28-29, 2024

Closures in Support of Annual Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk

In support of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s Annual 5K Run & Walk, and at the direction of our partners at the New York City Police Department, please be advised of the following local street closures for the weekend of September 28-29, 2024. Closures apply to vehicular traffic only; motorists are advised to allow for additional travel time and consider an alternate route.

Saturday, September 28:

– One tube of the Hugh L. Carey (HLC) Tunnel will be closed from 10:00PM Saturday, September 28, through 7:30AM on Sunday, September 29. One lane will be open in each direction in the remaining tube during this time.

– Vesey Street and parts of North End Avenue from Vesey Street to Murray Street will begin closing at midnight.

Sunday, September 29 (times/closures subject to change as determined by NYPD):

– 7AM: NYPD closes southbound West Street at Canal Street to Liberty Street

– 7AM: There will be no access to the Manhattan-bound HLC Tunnel from local streets in Brooklyn. Access to the Manhattan-bound HLC Tunnel from Brooklyn will only be available via the Gowanus Expressway until 7:30AM. Tunnel remains closed to vehicular traffic until conclusion of event (approx. 1PM).

– 8AM: Anticipated Street Closures:
• Northbound West Street from the HLC to Liberty Street
• Liberty Street between West Street and South End Avenue (& from Liberty St onto BPC Esplanade)
• River Terrace between Vesey Street and Warren Street
• Warren Street between River Terrace and West Street
• West Street between Warren and Vesey Street
• Murray Street closed from West Street to North End Avenue

– 1PM: Estimated re-opening of HLC Tunnel

– 2PM: Estimated re-opening of West Street

– 2-6PM: Final clean up by NYC Department of Sanitation. Vesey Street re-opens upon completion of sweep.

Traffic Notes:

– Vehicles can exit at Albany Street and use West Street to the Battery Park Underpass or use West Street to Battery Place.

– Chambers Street into North BPC is managed access and restricted to residents only.

– South End Avenue traffic can exit via Albany or West Thames. Any street south of Liberty Street can be entered / exited using Battery Place, South End Ave, Little West Street, or the Southbound Westside Highway/West Street.

The Manhattan portion of the Tunnel to Towers Run/Walk starts at the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel, continues northbound on West Street, left onto Liberty, then along the Esplanade northbound, making a right on Warren Street, and finishing at West Street and Murray Street. There is a one block walk off to Vesey Street.
