On August 18, 2015, North Cove Sailing School at Brookfield Place will host a regatta for the Wounded Veterans Adaptive Sailing Program. The sailing school will honor the veterans with morning and afternoon races. Brookfield Place has made generous donations to bring the veterans to Battery Park City, and is the ideal location for the much anticipated celebratory event in honor of those veterans. Steve Colgate, co-owner, President and CEO of Offshore Sailing School recognizes the joy that the wounded veterans experience during the teamwork oriented sailing, and takes great pride in the event.
On August 17 and 18, the press will get the opportunity to conduct media interviews each morning at the marina from 8:30-9:30 a.m.
Offshore and North Cove Sailing School will provide its Colgate 26 fleet and instructor coaches to conduct an orientation of the vessels and local waterways, and run the regatta in honor of the 20 Wounded Veterans participants who have progressed through the organizations Retreat and Adaptive Sailing Program.
The organization was established by retired Command Sgt. Maj. Nelson Corbin, and is designed to work within the vision and mission of Wounded Veterans Retreat Program to enhance the lives of the wounded veterans and their families, and to help reduce the amount of veteran suicides nationwide. Each sailing event involves team building, developing individual skills, social activates, and building self-confidence.
Offshore Sailing School operates three schools on New York Harbor, and has eight locations in total. Sailing programs include lessons and rides, and sailing certification courses from Learn to Sail and Performance Sailing, to Bareboat Charter Cruising and Passage Making. Offshore Sailing School also hosts corporate team building programs and group regattas. The company’s two sailing clubs offer members unlimited use of its Colgate 26 fleet from Colgate Offshore Sailing Club in Jersey City, New Jersey, and North Cove Sailing Club in Battery Park City.
