SOUTH COVE QUAY RE-OPENS TO PUBLIC

Located on South Cove’s north end near The Regatta condominium, the South Cove wooden quay has incurred damage to its multiple components during past storm events, in which surging water waves from the Hudson River has damaged the quay’s wood plank decking and connections. The waves caused displacement of the wood, which, in turn, caused damage to the quay’s ADA-compliant ramp handrails.

After closing for roughly $540,000 of repairs, in-kind rebuilding of the South Cove Quay is now complete and the area has reopened to the public.

Considered one of the country’s most significant public artworks, South Cove – a collaboration among artist Mary Miss, landscape architect Susan Child, and architect Stan Eckstut – is a meditative recess along the waterfront that encompasses carefully sited rocks, natural plantings, and atmospheric blue lights along the Battery Park City Pedestrian Esplanade.

With completion of this work we look forward to welcoming our neighbors back to South Cove’s newly-reopened waterfront walkway. See you on the quay!
