STATEMENT OF BATTERY PARK CITY AUTHORITY PRESIDENT & CEO B.J. JONES ON THE RACIST ACT OF VANDALISM AT BMCC

Law enforcement investigating vandalism at the Shirley Fiterman Art Center in advance of the upcoming show, “Interventions—Mildred Howard: In the Line of Fire and Ned Smyth: Moments of Matter and Life”

“The Battery Park City Authority stands with our partners at the Shirley Fiterman Art Center, and the BMCC and CUNY community, in rejecting the racist and hateful intolerance of these perpetrators and their illegal actions.

“As the home of one of Ms. Howard’s works, The House That Shall Not Pass for Any Color Than Its Own, and a sponsor of her associated forthcoming BMCC exhibition, In the Line of Fire, we encourage members of our community and the broader public to visit these installations and carry forth their important and timely messages. Last year, in a statement announcing the arrival of The House That Shall Not Pass for Any Color Than Its Own in Battery Park City, Ms. Howard described the installation as ‘a symbol of home in a city that is sensitive to New York City’s diverse population and multicolored beauty.’ Together, we all can work toward more fully realizing her vision.”
