The Poets House Passwords series introduces audiences to poets who may be new to them or provides an opportunity to better understand the work.

In this talk, professor and translator Jawid Mojaddedi will highlight Rumi’s unique narrative style through “Moses and the Shepherd,” the most popular story for Persian readers among the dozens in Rumi’s masterpiece, the Masnavi. The Masnavi is celebrated for taking the reader on a transformative journey in which the destination is never predictable. Drawing on his experience translating the six-volume work, Mojaddedi illustrates how Rumi’s subversively interactive style and incorporation of lyrical climaxes lead his reader into perplexity.
