BPCA ANNOUNCES NEW ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO DEVELOP RECOMMENDATIONS FOR DESIGN & LOCATION OF ESSENTIAL WORKERS MONUMENT IN BPC

Committee Comprised of Representatives from Essential Worker Groups, Local Residents, Community Board Leadership, and State Officials

Battery Park City Authority Chairman George J. Tsunis today announced the creation of a new Battery Park City Essential Workers Monument Advisory Committee to provide recommendations on design, location, and installation of a monument in Battery Park City honoring the service and sacrifice of New York’s essential workers throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The committee includes a majority of Battery Park City residents from the local community board, neighborhood association, residential complexes, and BPCA Board, as well as representatives from essential worker groups and New York State officials.

“The new Battery Park City Essential Workers Monument Advisory Committee brings a diverse array of local voices together with representatives of essential workers groups and other stakeholders to develop recommendations for a monument befitting the service of those who sacrificed so much for all of us,” said BPCA Chairman George J. Tsunis. “I look forward to building on the productive, community-based dialogue from these past weeks to deliver a fitting and meaningful monument in Battery Park City’s public space that all New Yorkers can appreciate.”

The BPC Essential Workers Monument Advisory Committee is comprised of 17 individuals representing essential workers, local and residential organizations, and State officials. The members of the Committee are:
