OPERATION PUMPK2N DROP

Annual Pumpkin Composting Runs Through November 3

Orange you glad we’re back?! Beginning Monday, October 30, BPCA is accepting pumpkins as part of its second annual Operation Pumpkin Drop. Simply leave your pumpkins in the gray bins at any of the four locations below and they’ll be sustainably composted and used to create a quality soil fertilizer.

Drop Off Locations:
– Outside 75 Battery Place
– Esplanade Plaza
– Teardrop Park South
– Rockefeller Park (lower level of Chambers Street & River Terrace by Tribeca Pointe)

After the composting process is complete, these nutrients will be returned to BPC’s gardens to help improve our soil fertility. BPCA will be collecting the pumpkins through Friday, November 4.

As part of last year’s inaugural effort, the Authority collected more than 750 pounds of pumpkin. This material, along with fruits, vegetables, tea bags/leaves, coffee grounds/filters, and spent flowers left by the community as part of BPCA’s year-round community compost program, has helped produced more than 125,000 lbs. of compost since 2022, including 50,000 lbs. to date in 2023 alone. Thank you, Battery Park City!

If you’d like to learn more about the composting process please reach out to info.bpc@bpca.ny.gov.
