Battery Park City Authority provide a habitat for many types of birds and feature excellent spots for both the casual visitor to catch a glimpse of wildlife and for more serious Birdwatchers to add to their life lists.
The gallery above showcases some of the bird species more commonly seen, including birds who make the parks their year round habitat (back yard birds) as well as those passing through on their seasonal migrations.
The full “Life List” for Battery Park City Authority is below. Please note that this list follows the “Life List” categorization provided by Roger Tory Peterson’s A Field Guide to the Birds of Eastern and Central North America. 5th ed. published by Houghton Mifflin in 2002. Visitors are encouraged to send us photographs or details of their own sightings. Please send them to info.bpc@bpca.ny.gov.
We would like to remind visitors to please not feed any birds seen in the parks as this seemingly generous act can be harmful. Feeding wild animals can lead to poor nutrition, the spread of disease, overcrowding, delayed migration and unnatural behavior. Please help keep wildlife wild.
